NAEC is excited to open the data portal to the new Surgical Data Collection Program for all level 4 centers.

The goal of the Surgical Data Collection Program (the Surgical Program) is to gather and aggregate de-identified data on methods and outcomes of surgical epilepsy treatment to improve processes and patient outcomes. NAEC may use this de-identified data to improve and increase the evidence basis for NAEC’s accreditation process. The Surgical Program reflects an update to NAEC’s existing process of collecting aggregate de-identified data annually from epilepsy centers for accreditation.

All level 4 centers will be required to submit de-identified data on 2026 surgeries at their center by January 31^st, 2027.  But we encourage centers to begin submitting data sooner so that we can troubleshoot any issues.

NAEC prepared a number of documents to assist centers in participating in this new program, including a program overview, data dictionary, user instructions, and an FAQ. Some resources specifically address HIPAA requirements, the certification of the surgical dataset and other legal issues that may be shared with your hospital compliance or legal departments if they have questions. These documents can be found on a new Surgical Program page of the NAEC website available here.
